 It is with a bittersweet heart that we announce Dr. Mark Wohlgemuth's retirement from Head and Neck Associates of Orange County. We are eternally grateful for the unparalleled care Dr. Wohlgemuth provided his patients over the past 33 years. We will truly miss his presence in the practice. We wish him all the best in the next chapters of his life!

Mark Wohlgemuth, M.D., F.A.C.S.

John Supance, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.A.P.

ENT Doctor in Mission Viejo and Irvine, CA

Dr. John Supance graduated from Ohio State University School of Medicine. He completed two years of training in General Surgery and a residency program in Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Cincinnati. While at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Supance received the Alter Peerless Award for excellence as Chief Resident. Dr. Supance then spent the next year at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in a Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship training program, followed by two years of academic teaching at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as a full-time Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, where he was the recipient of the Seymour Cohen Award for scientific research in Pediatric Otolaryngology.

Dr. Supance is board certified in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, a Charter Member of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology, a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has served as Chief of Otolaryngology, Chief of Surgery, member-at-large on the Medical Staff Executive Committee, Chief of Staff-elect and Chief of Staff at Children's Hospital of Orange County at Mission Hospital. Dr. Supance has been selected every year as a California "Super Doctor" and has earned the “America’s Top Doctors” honor by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. Since 2004.

His professional interests include the pediatric airway, head and neck tumors as well as middle ear and sinus disorders.

Dr. Bredenkamp received his Medical Degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. He then went on to complete a six year residency in the Department of Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine. Dr. Bredenkamp's surgical training included two years of General Surgery and four years of Head and Neck specialty surgery.  He also spent one year in basic research studying the immunology of cancer.

Dr. Bredenkamp is board certified in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is the author of over twenty scientific papers and has written five book chapters. Dr. Bredenkamp is a contributing author to MedicineNet.Com and chief editor of FocusOnHearing.Com. He has served as the Chief of Surgery Mission Hospital, Chief of Surgery of Children's Hospital, Chief of Otolaryngology at Mission Hospital and Saddleback Hospital, and the Medical Director of the Mission Ambulatory Surgicenter. Dr. Bredenkamp has been selected as one of the "Best Doctors" in his specialty by Consumers' Guide to Top Doctors. He is recognized as a "Physician of Excellence" by the Orange County Medical Associaton in the specialty of Head and Neck Oncology.

Dr. Jakobsen received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. He spent one year as a Howard Hughes Research Scholar in the laboratory of Steven Rosenberg, M.D. at the Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute, studying both immunology and immunotherapy options for the treatment of melanoma. Dr. Jakobsen went on to complete a six year residency in the Department of Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine. Dr. Jakobsen's surgical training included one-and-a-half years of general surgery and four-and-a-half years of head and neck specialty surgery. He also spent one year in basic research studying voice and voice disorders along with the feasibility of laryngeal transplantation. Dr. Jakobsen is board certified in Otolaryngology/ Head and Neck Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has written numerous scientific publications relating to laryngology and the study of immunology and immunotherapy of cancer.

His professional interests include head and neck surgical oncology, sleep and sleep related disorders, pediatric surgery/otolaryngology as well as voice disorders/laryngology.

ENT Doctor in Mission Viejo, Irvine and Laguna Hills, CA

Dr. Cho is board certified in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has received his undergraduate degree in Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), where he was admitted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society and worked with Nobel Laureate, Dr. Tonegawa. He then obtained his Medical Degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, along with the Dean's prize in Research. This was in recognition for his work on growth factors in wound healing as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellow. Dr. Cho then went on to complete a five year residency at UCSF. He has several publications on wound healing, cholesterol granulomas of the ear, and reconstructive techniques in facial plastic surgery. He is recognized as a "Physician of Excellence" by the Orange County Medical Association in the specialty of Head and Neck Oncology. 

His professional interests include ear surgery, advanced sinus surgery, head and neck cancer, pediatric otolaryngology, and facial reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Wells received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of California, Irvine, where he was a President's Undergraduate Scholar in neurobiology. He then received his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1990. Dr. Wells went on to complete a five year residency in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the St. Louis University Medical Center. He has been board certified since 1996, through the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Wells' has served as Chief of Surgery, Treasurer/Secretary of the Medical Staff, and Vice-Chief of the Medical Staff at Saddleback Medical Center, San Clemente. Dr. Wells has been the Chief of Otolaryngology at Mission Hospital since 2014. He was selected by the Orange County Medical Association as a "Physician of Excellence" in 2014. Dr. Wells earned 2016 “America’s Top Doctors” honor by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.

His professional interests include general and pediatric otolaryngology, sinus and nasal disorders, facial reconstruction, head and neck oncology, and thyroid/parathyroid surgery.

Dr. Crockett is board certified in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He received his medical degree from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Crockett completed his residency at the University of Southern California Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. He then completed a Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Crockett returned to California and became an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine (USC University Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles), and was one of the “Doctors of USC”, from 1987 to 2008, when he joined the practice at Head and Neck Associates. Dr. Crockett has been voted one of Castle-Connolly’s “America’s Top Doctors” and “America’s Top Doctors for Cancer”. He is recognized as a "Physician of Excellence" by the Orange County Medical Association in the specialty of Head and Neck Oncology and has been one of California’s “Super Doctors” since 2000. 

His professional interests include pediatric otolaryngology/pediatric head and neck tumors, adult head and neck cancer and thyroid/parathyroid surgery, pediatric/adult airway reconstruction, pediatric/adult sinus surgery as well as general otolaryngology.

Dr. Crockett is active in Boy Scouting (Silver Beaver and Orange County Council Man of Character), and his hobbies include backpacking and mountaineering, rock climbing (getting a little too old for this one), high power rocketry and competitive ballroom dancing.

Dr. Mundi is board certified in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He received his undergraduate degree in English literature from the University of California, Los Angeles. He then graduated from Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. This was followed by a five year residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at UCLA Medical Center. Prior to joining HNA, Dr. Mundi was on staff at Beth Israel Medical Center and at the NYEEI in Manhattan, NYC. He is recognized as a "Physician of Excellence" by the Orange County Medical Association in the specialty of Head and Neck Oncology.

His professional interests include general and pediatric otolaryngology, sinus and nasal disorders, head and neck surgical oncology, sleep apnea, thyroid/parathyroid surgery, voice and swallowing disorders, hearing loss, vertigo, and facial reconstruction surgery.

Dr. Mundi enjoys photography, traveling, UCLA sports and spending time with his wife and two daughters.

Dr. Thompson received his medical degree from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine (USC), where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Thompson then completed a subspecialty Fellowship in Rhinology, Sinus & Skull Base Surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. He has authored numerous scientific papers pertaining to chronic sinusitis, smell loss, sinus tumors, endoscopic sinus & skull base surgery, and head and neck cancer. He is currently a peer reviewer for the Laryngoscope and the American Journal of Rhinology & Allergy and was recently selected as a Top Peer Reviewer for his contributions to the Laryngoscope. Dr. Thompson is board certified in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, and a member of the American Rhinologic Society.

His professional interests include sinus and nasal disorders, chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, revision endoscopic sinus surgery, frontal sinus surgery, balloon sinuplasty, septal deviation, sinus tumors, sinus cancer, cerebrospinal fluid leak, inverted papilloma, smell loss, general adult and pediatric otolaryngology, head and neck oncology, and sleep apnea.

Dr. Thompson enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, traveling, cycling, snowboarding, hiking and playing basketball.

Quang Luu, MD

Dr. Luu received his medical degree from Oregon Health and Science University and completed residency in Otolaryngology at the University of California – Los Angeles. Given the institution’s high-volume head and neck surgical oncology, he sought further training in advanced cancer surgery, completing a Fellowship at the University of California – Davis in skull base, oncology and microvascular reconstruction. After seven years as faculty at UC Davis, UCLA recruited Dr. Luu to perform similar surgeries, in which he was recognized as the “Best Full-Time Faculty Member” for two consecutive years (2016 & 2017).

Dr. Luu is board certified in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and his professional interests include treating head and neck tumors, microvascular reconstruction and skull base surgery.

Ashley Balaker, M.D.

Dr. Balaker is board certified in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and a subspecialist in Otology – Neurotology. She graduated from USC Keck School of Medicine with Honors after earning a B.S. in Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics from UCLA. She completed her residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at UCLA. Dr. Balaker then completed a two-year subspecialty Fellowship in Otology/Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery at the California Ear Institute in Palo Alto, California.

Dr. Balaker is caring for adult and pediatric patients, specifically those with ear disorders, hearing loss, vertigo and dizziness, ear and skull base tumors, sinusitis and eustachian tube disorders. Additionally, she is experienced in minimally invasive surgery for the ears and sinuses, including endoscopic transcanal ear surgery, surfer’s ear surgery, balloon sinuplasty, and endoscopic balloon dilation of the eustachian tube. Dr. Balaker also performs surgery for hearing restoration, including laser stapedotomy for otosclerosis and cochlear implantation for profound hearing loss.

Dr. Basen received his medical degree from Drexel University and completed residency in Internal Medicine at George Washington University Hospital. Following his residency, Dr. Basen moved to Southern California and completed his Allergy and Immunology Fellowship at the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare Center and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

Dr. Basen is both a board-certified allergist and immunologist, and a board-certified internist who has been practicing since 2016. Dr. Venkat is a board-certified allergist and immunologist who specializes in the treatment of allergy and asthma symptoms for both adults and children. She has been practicing in South Orange County for 30 years. Dr. Venkat specializes exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases.

Dr. Venkat received her specialty training at Children's Hospital Michigan, Wayne State University. She is double board-certified by the American Board of Allergy & Immunology and American Board of Pediatrics. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a member of various organizations including Orange County Allergy Society, Orange County Medical Association, and finally, she is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Irvine.
