Don’t let allergies get the better of you. Find out how you can effectively fight back.

It’s the same issues all the time: the watery itchy eyes, the runny nose, the sneezing or congestion. You are sick and tired of it and want allergiesto put a stop to these miserable symptoms that make it hard to get out of bed let alone be productive. Our Mission Viejo, CA ENT doctors are here to provide you with a little information about ways to tackle those nasty allergy symptoms.

Watery, Scratchy Eyes

Are your undereyes so dark that you look like an extra from The Walking Dead? No need for raccoon eyes anymore. Try taking an antihistamine, which is designed to target issues like itchy eyes, runny nose and sneezing. If you’ve tried antihistamines and they aren’t working then it’s time to talk to one of our Mission Viejo otolaryngologists about a stronger antihistamine that you can’t get over-the-counter.

Congestion

If you just had the common cold you would notice a reprieve from that stuffed up nose after a week, but if the congestion stays put for several weeks then your allergies might be the culprit. You may also notice that along with congestion you also experience pressure in and around your sinuses. Try a decongestant to breakup the mucus or ask us for a stronger decongestant that’s sure to do the trick.

Itchy Skin

While you may just be dealing with dry skin, if the itching doesn’t go away or you develop a rash then you could have eczema, a skin problem that commonly affects those with allergies. Try to figure out what exacerbates or triggers your symptoms such as fragrances, pet dander or certain skin products. If soothing moisturizers and antihistamines don’t work, it’s time to talk to us about a prescription.

Exhaustion

It’s amazing how dealing with chronic allergies can quickly drain you of any energy you could possibly have, not to mention that it can also affect the quality of your sleep. Allergies amp up your immune system, leaving you more tired than usual and some medications may make you drowsy. We would be happy to talk to you about different, non-drowsy products that you may want to try to zap that exhaustion away.
